Video Journal #2

My Dearest,
My natural daily state seems to be one of general inner desperation. The result of this is a drive to constantly work and create as a means of self deception. Calm through distraction and productivity.
I see the IAMX video journal as an experiment in accepting this part of my personality.
Therefore please forgive some of the introverted nonsense and randomness.Whatever it is to become it is a lot of fucking fun.

Watch it and enjoy me squirm inside as I travel on this public journey.
As you learn I learn.
Mmwwah x

You mentioned you listen to soundtracks a lot. Who are your favorite composers? I listen to soundtracks, as well. My favorite is John Barry! Also love Bernard Herrmann, Jerry Goldsmith, Angelo Badalamenti, Ennio Morricone, Danny Elfman and early John Williams.

  13. SkaryMonster Says:

You are like Martin Gore, who takes inspiration into darkness. It’s the price to pay for the most beautiful melodies, the gift of songs.
    Thank you.

    Stéphane – Grenoble-France

  14. Olya Says:

Chris, you are such an amazing person.
You know, we can see you at the stage, we can read your thoughts in the blog and now we can even see your sacred process of creating music. Thank you very much, that you let us in your life. So, maybe it is a little bit stupid question, but as now we know much about our personality, I’m still interested how do you see yourself? How can you describe your personality and your art? I will be very happy, if you could answer.
    Lots of love XX

  15. Jasmine Says:

I really hope that you enjoyed Hässleholm and Sweden! I wanted nothing else but to go, but sadly, an empty wallet forced me to stay at home :(

    Love from Sweden

  16. Ashi Says:

Oh these are divine. Thank you for sharing so raw your process and your thoughts. It seems like it must be hard after all the years of privacy, but I thank you. I wonder how beautiful the next album will be. Do you have any strong vision of what you what like to be doing, where you would like to be physically and mentally, in ten years from now?

  17. Annie Says:

  19. Zack Roxas Says:

Inspiration from human behavior… I think that’s almost the entire reason I relate to IAMX. Definitely a Thinker’s band.

  20. black bird white sky Says:

Hello, I hope you can make it back to NYC soon. Saw you at Bowery Ballroom a couple of years ago and it was a magical experience. Here’s a video for you for one of my songs – I Saw Your Soul, inspired partly by that show and experience – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHiq8zFzlWc
Keep going…and thank you for making beautiful true art.

  21. jess jacobs Says:

thanks for sharing! i know how weird it can be, talking to cameras and by extension hundreds or thousands of people… looking forward to your new efforts.

  22. UltraNuman Says:

Looking so much to hearing the new album and to get someone else in to help produce it is such a good idea,
I’m not saying your not doing a good job but an outsider can put that little extra something that you could never find on your own. Hope you get to play some more UK shows too!

  23. Suvi Says:

Of all beautiful people, you surely are the most beautiful! This blog is so entertaining, glad you made it. I wish you’d come to finland, it’s been a year since the last time and i’m sure everyone here is suffering from horrible withdrawal symptoms for not having seen you for so long :D

  32. Wren Says:

    Oh Christopher,

Remember that a lot of your fans are in the same boat, so your introvertedness and randomness give us comfort and make us feel a little more sane. You’re ridiculous and amazing. Tropic Thunder next to Fellini? I love it.

    <3 Wren

  33. Janessa Says:

  36. Federica Says:

Your music sounds like poetry to me, you’re a great artist Chris, thanks for your art :-)

  37. Sofia Says:

Yayy, Sweden! I would have wished for a bit more about Sweden and some live footage from the concert. But I guess I have to settle with this. It’s an awesome video either way, though.

I would LOVE to have access to all of your little videos and conversations. I am so, SO curious about if you noticed me and my sister backstage and if you really heard me screaming that I love you during the concert, or if it was just me imaging that you actually reacted to it. Please, PLEASE reply to this, Chris. It would mean the world to me.

    Love from Sweden!
    Sofia xx

  38. TeReza Says:

I could spend a lot of time just listening to you playing the piano and singing.. It’s breathtaking!
I’m looking forward to watching the creation of IAMX5.

Thank you for another interesting video. Take care.

  39. Chris Corner Says:

I noticed you both Sofia. Thanks for your screaming support!
    Cx

  40. Tim Says:

    Chris,

I can’t wait to hear your new album! You’re one of the greatest songwriters of our time. Unique, prolific and inspirational. A silver lining in this whole mediocre, soulless, overproduced mainstream music that keeps getting worse year after year. Thank you for that and all the best with your current production and your future writing!

  41. Tania Says:

    Dear Chris,
Thank you for creating and communicating with us. Thank you for being yourself and letting us into your world. We love you and your introverted nonsense and randomness, but general inner desperation and self deception? Really? Why? What happened? My dear, you know and maybe feel that we are connected. I’ve already written that whenever you suffer, we suffer and it’s true. However, the opposite feelings well up inside me when I see you, though only with the help of technologies, but not in reality. Feelings of endless love and calm. Chris, I want you to be happy. But what can I do? I’m too far from you and you don’t even know me and don’t even know what you mean to me (but I hope you guess). Dear Christopher, be happy and keep looking for tranquility. I know that you can be happy. I’m sure you can. And I believe you are.

    With never-ending love and support,

    Tania

  42. Tania Says:

And I have a question concerning your answer on video blog about inspiration. Once you’ve mentioned that your favorite Fellini’s film is Eight and a Half. Do you somehow find the main character alike you? Do you see any common features?

  43. Reality headphones Says:

    So,maybe I don`t know
    English so well as you,Chris))
    Because I`m Russian)))
and the creation is not main…
    but necessarily it must be))
    I should nothing
    for creation.
Because I really gave them all
    …and creativity…for us -
    is the ability,at last
    and possibility
    for artfully
    survive ))

  44. Reality headphones Says:

and I can smile, and even laugh
    But I need your help,men,
because it`s time to help the planet.
    tell me,I seriously

  45. ross Says:

thanks for this second effort, chris. we really appreciate your will to brave your shyness.. but, why this state of general inner desperation? please, be sure that we don’t enjoy ‘watching you squirm inside’, we’re only happy if you’re happy. and IAMX 5 will surely be great
looking forward to hearing from you again

  46. dizzle Says:

    >My natural daily state seems to be one of general inner desperation. The result of this is a drive to constantly work and create as a means of self deception. Calm through distraction and productivity.

Wow. I can’t even count the years I have been living my life the exact same way. It feels a bit strange to see it actually written out in words. And someone else’s words at that. Like a brief distraction from distraction, haha…

  47. Giselle Says:

i don’t know if i have to put here my question but.. here is it-

your music inspiration comes from classic films and classic music too so… ¿do you like to do a movie or a shortfilm?
    love from Argentina.

  48. Terri Izzi Says:

Beautiful Chris, the few minutes you give us in your journals is such a tease. I feel I know what is in your head and heart and soul. I think that is why I connected to your music — the notes, the words, the melodies, the sounds — totally connected with my soul. Your journals are awesome and you are amazing!

Love from Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, USA

  49. Driz B. Says:

iAMreally loVing these, and this idea in general! I’m grAteful to live in a time with Artists such as yourself around, and people really have no idea how lucky we truly are! :*

I do love your ideas thus far for IAMX5!~I’ve always admired that side of you as well, such as “This Will Make You Love Again”, comes to mind?… <3 <3 <3 I suppose, if I were to "add" anything to this, hmmm, maybe you should consider working with a Harpsichord and/or other instruments as well as the Piano???—I have a thing for harpsichords though? ;] I just feel it would be extremely unique with your rare, gorgeous vocals over one?…there's one cent, and I'll add even more later. :]

    Love,…always…

  56. Verity Says:

    Hello , dear Chris!

Sorry in advance for my bad English, but I want to write you very much, to say something important …

I got acquainted recently with your creation work about 4 months ago , but now all songs of iamx are on my playilist.. it became part of me and my biography))
At that moment a felt bad, dark, was in a melancholy mood , because some of sad events have occurred in my life that have caused me terrible pain which I can t share with someone else, which eats up at me inside everytime . At this critical moment when I was in despair and my spirit drooped , I found your songs…It was my salvation., second wind , new whirlpool in which I dove . Oh God, how they were deeply impressed  me! It was real shock.Madness! Your magic fantastic voice, space and strange lyrical music, beautiful lyrics…
My heart is breaking to pieces, but I have never cried and so I m closing my eyes and pressing “play” or “repeat” again and again. Your songs literally echoed my innermost thoughts and feelings. It s great! like a shot in the heart and in the head…Oh what a sweet death!
Music has always been more than fun to me, it is my air and food without exaggeration (sounds silly, perhaps) and I listen it all day and I look for something new to your taste ong time like a wayward gourmet ..and I found!
Now I feel very lonely and music is my latest pleasure , the only joy and friend.Seriously.
And your music has a place in my soul from the first notes (rarely happens), and my heart is crying now by your unearthly voice…
THANK YOU VERY MUSH! You filled my emptiness inside, gave me mini world , in which I m saved myself and where I can give vent to my secret emotions.
It’s so hard to experience inside, be single and alone to confront whith difficulties…I think you understand what I mean
thank you thank you I’m really looking forward to your new album, I became a fan of your work )))

Create! Sing! Write! Because for so many people you re like oxygen.. You are beautiful! You are an amazing artist  and a marvellous person) we ..I so need you ><
Your songs are my pain, my sorrow, joy and salvation, and my hope)))
    Wait your new album!

     With respect and admiration
    From Russia with love <3

( I m writing the first time so my message is too long)

  57. modwolf Says:

    HI CHRIS

I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU!

HAVE YOU FUCKED NOEL OR HAS HE FUCKED YOU?
YES IT IS NECESSARRY FOR ME TO KNOW

(YES THIS IS ACTUALLY NOEL FIELDING HIMSELF )

  58. bEN Says:

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for your post. Pity I won’t be around this time to see you live in Belgium this year. Is it me or you do keep on playing gigs in Belgium almost every year? ;-) Anyway, enjoy yourself and who knows you might pounce on me again next time you feel like crowd-surfing in Belgium. Good luck with the studio work.
    bEN

  59. Patrick Says:

Cant get enough of Chris <3 his always going againts society's definition of "normal" but not on purpose of course its just something IAMX and others happen to do while living in it. though it seems like his going on a slightly different direction with this new album i hope to see the IAMX fanbase grow and make a somewhat louder cheer for all the world to hear. MwaAhhhhh!

  60. Darryl Says:

    Yo bro.

Really getting into volatile times now. It’s a grower. Do you think IAMX will ever tour the uk in the future? Maybe you’re sick of the uk? Fuck knows I am. Although England is light years ahead of the bullshit and slit your throat for a fiver fuckers that live here in good old Northen Ireland. It’s great to read such lucid relevance from a REAL artist. A few years ago we covered Superbug for the Uncover the Fans project.
Even though it was shit compared to the original, the memory of creating (imitating!?) the song still resonates deeply. Being part of a multicultural collective seemed to mean something in this consumer based cesspit.

Anyway it’s the weekend, the rain has stopped and I can have late morning dreams tomorrow.

Take care and don’t stop writing.

    Darryl

  61. Joy Says:

Chris, you are a fascinating artist. Truly a sponge in a dry well soaking up the world, wringing yourself out into visions of poetry.. if only more people cared to affect others in such a raw, straight up and positive way…who knows the world we could create for ourselves. Thankyou for sharing . I hope you receive as much in return. Stay beautiful.

    Joy

  62. Nastya Says:

    Dear Chris,
You are a wondeful songwriter, I’m in rapture of your music, of your voice. I’m so glad that you decided to share and created this Video Journal. It’s so uncommonly to hear your voice, especially the song in the end of this VJ was marvellous.
I never share my feelings with people surround me, so I decided to share here. Once when I was like an empty box, when I lost the interest, I found your music. It was like a drop of water for a thirsty person. A few month passed, and now I’m feeling like another person. It’s so good.)
When I had found up about your live show in Kyiv, I had asked my parents, but they didn’t allow me to go there, because on that moment I’ll be only 15.((
I can only expect that once you’ll return to Kyiv and at that time I’ll go to your live show…
    Ukraine is waiting for you!!!
    A lot of love, Nastya)

  63. Ray Says:

    Oh… Dear Christopher…

You’re amazing musician and just incomparable person! You’re soooo beautiful… You and your music gave me so much emotions and I just can’t stand on the sidelines and don’t say “Thanks a lot”…
Maybe, this message will be weird (and too big)), but I can’t show my delight by other way.. :)

Thank you for everything that you do, Chris! Thanks to IAMX! Music is everything for me! In IAMX’s music I found an answer for all of my preys. In world where music is just a stuff, where the people work for a mass you stay these ones who create a truthful, an independent and a heartfelt art. Yeah, It’s still happening in this world but only you can show the pain so passionately and deeply…
Pain is a seed for a huge and strong tree which has complicated and beautiful twigs. Then your garden become overgrown by these… but, here’s only pain everywhere? There is so much water in it… so we can see lakes hide in a deep dark forest. What about love magic? The red sunset lay on the water smooth, sparkle by sparkle… A new century that replaces an Apocalypse, rises as a green gross, fights for it life with a dead and dry ground.
Don’t forget – apocalypse ends anyway with a bright morning… and a green grass will rise again (it’s so strong!)…
The Pain, passion, wisdom, flight… This garden is fantastic for people like us… Chris, you create wonderful worlds, give us an opportunity to see and to feel this magnificence! So many people live inside your music, feed and save their souls by it. Thank you Thank you Thank you…

«Chris, I want you to be happy. But what can I do? I’m too far from you and you don’t even know me and don’t even know what you mean to me (but I hope you guess)». – Ooh…Tania said all before me))

(I wrote this message too long, many things was said before I try to say them)… Tania, sorry ))

Chris,You are beautiful, unique, gorgeous, and…. I LOVE YOU! I love you with all of my soul…
I love your voice, your eyes, your hands… EVERYTHING!
You can be happy, Chris. You deserve a souls harmony with yourself, you deserve love and understanding…
I always find a song that saves me, puts me on my feet, make me think… I would like to tell you something, that will help you, as your music do, but I really don’t know what to say…

We are with you Chris, thanks for being with us.

    Love you…

    Sorry for my English pls.

  64. Carla Says:

Hope you’re feeling better. Inner turmoils are always hard to explain to people.

Don’t let it eat you. Bite back.

  65. Kinia Says:

Oh, how much I love you, Mr Corner… Your words are so special… so unusual created… and whole your art is so incredibly beautiful. I fall in love every time I hear you, watch you or…read words from you.
The song that you play in this video is perfect for me. Now I can`t wait for the new album! Hm… and I wonder what name would you choose…, could you reveal it to us ?
And I miss your show so much. I wish there was your gig in Poland… I wanted to be in Berlin yesterday, but I couldn`t go… I strongly hope to see you soon in my country!!! We love you here too!
And what else I want to say is that your video journals are marvellous. I admit that I doubted it, but now I`m so glad to be closer to you and impatiently waiting fot the next one!
Stay strong, you are with us and we are with you!
    MUCH LOVE! <3

  66. Loyter Says:

This’s shit that I will listen for rest of my life…

  67. Steffi Says:

    hello you wonderful human being!

    i’ve got 2 questions.

Q1: would you please like to show us your nose shower and how you are using it? ;-)
Q2: what’s your favourite food? are you vegetarian – if yes – why? do you cook for yourself?

    Much Love!

  68. andro Says:

I think you have a creative stagnation

  69. Javier Says:

    and MEXICO….. when ??? :P

  70. Annwyn Says:

Wow, Chris. it`s so exciting to read you again and again. Your actions and words always inspirate me. Without your music I wouldn`t became who I am. A thousand thanks to you! Patiently waiting for the next news.
    Much love from Russia:)))

  71. Katia Says:

Your music is like an echo of previous centuries , something whimsical , revolutionary , overturns everything in our souls. Nevertheless, this is what we need now. Never give up! Thank you very much!

  72. Klaudia Says:

    Are you watching EURO 2012?

  73. Shellie Says:

    Dear Chris
Thank you for allowing us to enter your beautiful mind. My daughter Millie also adores you since I introduced her to your music. We came to see you in Heaven in London last year when you had a poorly foot – I hope you received the gift we left with one of the crew for you! Did you?
Millie is single handedly spreading IAMX love on twitter and rapidly introducing many to the love and joy that you bring with your art. She posts videos and snapshots of your amazing lyrics almost every day! You have also inspired her to continue to learn piano – thank you xxx
Would it be too presumptious of me to ask that you mention her in your next weblog as it would make her the happiest girl alive?
Come back to London soon, please! xxx

  74. Tilly Says:

    Dear Chris,
thank you for trying to cure your moodswings with writing and making music and videos, and sharing it with us – instead of just mourning, hiding or whatever… You are very inspiring!
We saw you in Berlin lately – you and your lovely band filled this huge, cold hall with joy and warmth and beauty… And – I got the drum stick – nice, because it was my 49th birthday! :-D
    Thanx, Tilly

  75. Sun_Sunovna Says:

hello, dear Christopher!! everytime it’s such a pleasure to see your beautiful face, to see you eyes))) but what a pleasure to see more and more of your soul, of your thought, of some inner sacred things!!!! thank you so much for your trust to us))))

as you encourage us to ask you questions, I`ll take this opportunity :)
in this part of v-blog we could see your collection of videotapes, there is Kubrick`s “Lolita” among them. as I understand, you love the film, but I`d like to wonder what do you think about Nabokov`s book, what the film based on? do you like it? some of my friends find it ugly and disputable((( and it makes me sad, `cause I really love it, find its language-style brilliant! so what is your opinion?

stay real, our fragile-but-strong Wizard))) we love you, and will always be by your side))))

    hugs and greetings from Ukraine!

    love,
    sasha

  76. KendraS Says:

I noticed you have Tropic Thunder on your movie shelf. I feel this is, as we novelists say, a “killer diller detail” about you. While you are truly encompassed with a lot of melancholy and a very deep and sometimes sad spirit, I can’t help feeling heartened that you have some motifs of comedy and laughter in your home. What makes you laugh? What makes you giggle or belly laugh or feel for a few moments that the butterfly wings of happiness are wrapped around your mind and keeping the despair at bay? Have you ever read any BOOKS that made you laugh out loud? Thank you for your contribution to the artistic colony that all of us writers, painters, artists, musicians and other lunatics are part of.

    love,
    Kendra

  77. Carla Says:

    Do you sculpt?

  78. Magdalena Says:

Love from Romania. IAMX is my fav band performing live. Those bitches in the band are crazy and I absolutely love them!
